Hey guys, we almost are to the first big deadline of this challenge. EXCITING. First drafts of ALL FIC are due May 1.

Here's what you need to know about submitting your draft:

1. The deadline for your submission is May 1. As long as it's May 1 wherever you are when you send it, you're on time.

2. Absolutely no extensions past May 1. We need to get things moving on May 2 with the whole art assignment part of this, which is going to take some time, hence the deadline.

3. What we will need from you on May 1:

Send an email to spnj2bigbang@gmail.com with this information pasted into the body of the email:

Then, attach your story draft to the email. Do NOT paste the contents of your fic into the email itself. This just freezes my computer and makes me cranky. PLEASE attach your fic to the email, but paste the template information above into the email itself. Got it?

Your complete first draft must be no less than 20,000 words. No exceptions. Please send it in a word file attached to your email. (No one is going to see this but the mods, and we're only looking for word count and story completeness.)

A word about story summaries...for this draft, the summary is aimed at piquing the interest of an artist during the claims process. It probably is NOT the same summary you should use to attract readers. You might consider emphasizing any visual elements in your story. This is not the time to be worried about spoilers! You're looking for a collaborator here, so entice them!

Be complete. Yet succinct. You should be able to do your summary in about one paragraph.

4. On May 9 we will post final titles and summaries (without the authors' names attached) for the artist's to preview. Artist claims will open May 10.

5. Art/vids first drafts will be due by June 1.

6. We will make a staggered posting schedule starting June 5. Don't worry about this now, because we're going to make the schedule after we see how many stories have been turned in. You will have plenty of notice!

Because this is so important, I'm going to say it again, in all caps: THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS, FOR ANY REASON, TO THE MAY 1 DEADLINE.

So that's it. Finish up, don't panic and have fun! There will be more reminders moving forward, so don't worry about forgetting or not having a chance to ask questions. You guys are doing awesome, KEEP GOING!

A few more details:
-I don't care what you put in the subject line of your email. Just send it!
-You don't need to tell me you turned in your draft. I will check you in, it just won't be immediate, so give me a bit, ok?
-If you need to drop out, just don't turn in a May 1 draft and you're out...see how easy that is?

You guys are doing awesome. Let me know if I missed anything else!

To clear up a couple of things...yes, you can turn in your draft before May 1. (Please, please, PLEASE turn in your draft before May 1!!) In April, I will make a more detailed post about how to turn in your story and exactly what needs to be included. But in the meantime, here is the template from last year, which you still can use until the new one is posted.

Your story MUST be a complete first draft (NOT the same things as a final draft!!), with a beginning, middle and end, with no "insert scene here" placeholders and at least 20k words. No extensions will be given for any reason. It's May 1 or bust. OK?

Also, if you absolutely must drop out, all you need to do is not turn in a May 1 draft. Easy-peasy!

Keep going guys, you so can do this!

Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far to write or create art for this year's challenge. There's still plenty of time, so keep going!

    Two quick things:

    1. For unknown reasons, a ton of sign up comments are being marked as spam. I still can see them (they're just screened) and still can check you in. So, annoying as this is for you, please don't panic. If several days go by with no response from me, feel free to ask. But otherwise, give me a bit and I'll get you -- I promise!

    2. There have been multiple questions about what a beta is and what they do. As you know, we require fic in this challenge to be betad, so figured it was worth clarifying. Wikipedia has a great definition:
A beta reader is a person who reads a written work, generally fiction, with the intent to find and improve elements such as grammar and spelling, as well as suggestions to improve the story, its characters, or its setting. Beta reading is typically done before the story is released for public consumption.
    Hope that helps to clarify.

    Thanks all!

Challenge Rules for Artists and Vidders

    1. You agree to create at least one piece of art or a vid to accompany one of the 2014 Big Bang stories.

    2. Art can be of any type: original illustration, cover art, photo manip, etc. (Soundtracks and mixes do NOT count as art for this challenge.)

    3. Art or vids can be of any rating you choose (but out of consideration, it would be a good idea to consult with your writer before creating anything too explicit). By creating and posting explicit art, you agree that you are of legal age to do so.

    4. You must be able to post your artwork or vid at your livejournal or site, and we'll create a master list of links and summaries at the community.

    5. You have to choose to either write a story OR create art, not both. (We want to make sure everyone who's interested gets a chance to play!)

    6. Art and vids cannot be posted anywhere prior to your assigned posting date.

    7. Artists must agree to stay in communication with mods and with their assigned author. Disappearing with no explanation will result in being dropped from the challenge.

    Important Deadlines:

On May 9 summaries and titles will be posted (anonymously) for an artist preview. On May 10, claims will begin on a first come, first served basis. Once you have claimed a prompt, you will be able to contact the author and review the story draft for additional inspiration.

The due date for artwork/vid rough drafts is June 1. You must provide us with either a live link to the art or vid, or the art file itself in a photobucket compatible format. You MUST give your writer a copy of your art draft on or before June 1, as well.

An assigned, staggered posting schedule will begin June 5.

    Challenge Rules for Writers

    1. Stories must have a minimum length of 20,000 words. There is no maximum length.

    2. Stories may be slash, gen or het.

    3. The central story element must focus on characters from Supernatural OR on Jared and/or Jensen.

    4. In Supernatural fics, at least one character must be a canon character (one seen on-screen). Any Supernatural pairing is allowed.

    5. In RPS, any pairing is allowed as long as either Jared or Jensen is one of the central paired characters.

    6. You will be able to post your story on your own journal or site, and we'll create a master list of links and summaries at the community. Stories must be posted unlocked.

    7. Stories can NOT be posted anywhere prior to your assigned posting date.

    8. AU's are allowed. Crossovers are not. For the purposes of this challenge, SPN/RPS will STILL be considered a crossover, and is NOT allowed.

    9. You have to choose to either write a story OR create art, not both. (We want to make sure everyone who is interested gets a chance to play!)

    10. Stories must be betaed. Any posted story that flat-out says it has not been betaed is in violation of the challenge rules and will be deleted.

    11. Writers must agree to stay in communication with mods and with their assigned artist. Disappearing with no explanation will result in being dropped from the challenge.

    Important Deadlines:

You must sign-up to participate by February 1.

Your first draft (20,000 words minimum) must be completed and turned in with a summary, story warnings, and final title by May 1. (This is important and required, because we need to know that you will be finished with your story by the final due date BEFORE the artists begin work.)

On May 9, your summary and title will be posted (anonymously) for a participating artist to preview. Artist claims will begin May 10. The artist will create at the very least one piece of art (title banner, illustration, manip, vid, etc.) to accompany your story. You MUST give your artist/vidder a copy of your story draft before May 12, or you will be dropped from the challenge.

An assigned, staggered posting schedule will begin June 5.
